معرفی
Dr. Beth Mortimer is an Associate Professor in Animal Biology at the University of Oxford's Zoology Department and a Tutorial Fellow at Hertford College. She holds a Royal Society University Research Fellowship and leads the Animal Vibration Lab, exploring how animals like spiders, insects, and elephants use surface vibrations for navigation, communication, and survival. Her work bridges biology, engineering, and robotics to develop novel sensing technologies.
- Education: BSc Biological Sciences (Oxford), PGCE (Oxford Brookes), DPhil Zoology (Oxford)
- Prior Positions: 1851 Research Fellow (Bristol, 2016–2019), Career Development Fellow at Jesus College (2014–2016)
Her research applies insights from animal vibration detection to robotics, aiming to create mobile systems for disaster response, wildlife conservation, and industrial inspection. She also investigates long-distance elephant communication via seismic vibrations.
- Awards: Royal Society University Research Fellowship, 1851 Research Fellowship
Her lab focuses on interdisciplinary collaboration, combining material science and engineering principles with biological systems. Current projects include designing biologically inspired sensors and monitoring wildlife via ground vibrations.
