Takashi Nishiyama is an Associate Professor of History at The College at Brockport, State University of New York. His research bridges the intersections of modern Japanese history, the history of technology, and international migration, with a focus on transnational wartime experiences and intellectual mobility in the 20th century.
- PhD in History from The Ohio State University (2005)
- B.A. in International Relations, magna cum laude, from The Ohio State University (1993)
Dr. Nishiyama's research explores two major themes: (1) the conceptualization of altruism in wartime cultures, comparing Japan during WWII and the US during the Cold War, and (2) the social and international history of Japanese scientists and technologists migrating across borders. His work incorporates analysis of technology, suicide, gender, and ideological rationalization.
He has held visiting and research positions at institutions such as Soken University (Japan), Smithsonian National Air & Space Museum, and MIT's Dibner Institute. His professional consultations include collaborations with PBS, NHK, and major Japanese newspapers like Mainichi and Yomiuri.
