Taha Choukhmane is the Class of 1947 Career Development Assistant Professor of Finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management. He holds dual affiliations through MIT's Economics, Finance and Accounting academic area and the Consumer Finance Initiative. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER).
Education: He earned a PhD in Economics from Yale University (awarded the George Trimis Dissertation Prize), and holds prior fellowships at Boston College's Retirement Research Center and Yale's Institute of Social and Policy Studies.
Research focuses on household finance and behavioral economics, particularly retirement savings decisions. Key themes include behavioral biases in investment choices, marital coordination in savings, and racial disparities in retirement wealth. Current projects examine employer 401(k) match optimization and the interplay between retirement incentives and wealth inequality.
