Dr. Tabinda Basit is a Lecturer at the School of Psychology, The University of Queensland, focusing on health psychology, mental health, and wellbeing within First Nations and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. Her research emphasizes program development and evaluation, cultural adaptations, and epidemiological methods to improve mental health measurement and service delivery.
- Research Interests: Health psychology, preventative health, behavior change, culturally responsive research, First Nations health, chronic disease management, chronic pain, and service engagement.
- Current Projects: Evaluation of Staying Deadly Hubs for First Nations mental health services and investigation of carer needs for loved ones with mental health concerns.
Research Impact: Basit co-designed the Staying Deadly Survey, Australia’s first epidemiological mental health study for First Nations peoples, influencing national health surveys and government-funded mental health hubs. She led the Work It Out program’s expansion from 3 to 14 sites across Queensland.
Supervision: Available for supervision, currently advising PhD projects on trauma therapy for First Nations women and PTSD-eating disorders comorbidity. Collaborates with Professor Fiona Barlow.
