Sut I Wong serves as Head of Department and Professor of Communication and Management at BI Norwegian Business School, with additional appointments as Professor II at the Department of Psychology at University of Oslo and adjunct faculty at University of Ljubljana. As co-founder and co-director of the Nordic Center for Internet and Society at BI, she bridges academic research with practical industry applications, currently serving on advisory boards for two tech start-ups.
Professor Wong's research spans macro and micro foundations of labor-relations. At the macro level, she investigates institutional differences in employee participation programs across capitalist models and how industrial relation policies foster employee participation during mergers & acquisitions. Her micro-level research examines human resource management, leadership, organizational behavior, individual proactivity, creativity, and leader-follower dynamics, with particular focus on how autonomous working conditions influence organizational outcomes. She has developed significant expertise in cross-cultural management through global research projects including the Global HR project, Global Leadership Identity project, and Global Employee silence project.
Analysis of her 15 most recent publications reveals a pronounced shift toward digital workplace dynamics, with consistent themes of virtual team coordination, technostress, digital mindset, and leadership adaptation across cultural contexts. Her work increasingly addresses human-machine interaction, AI in recruitment, and crowdworker career development, reflecting the evolving challenges of digital transformation in organizational settings.
Professor Wong has secured substantial research funding including the Fair Labor in the Digitized Economy project funded by the Norwegian Research Council and Organizational Design in the Digital Era funded by the Slovenian Research Agency. Her advisory work extends beyond academia to active involvement with tech start-ups, demonstrating her commitment to translating research into practical business applications.
As co-director of the Nordic Center for Internet and Society, she leads a research hub focused on the societal implications of digital technologies, examining how virtual teams, digital communication configurations, and human-robot interactions reshape contemporary workplaces. Her work consistently bridges theoretical rigor with practical relevance across multiple international contexts.
