Dr Surawee Chuaiphichai is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, affiliated with the Channon Group (Cardiovascular functional genomics and redox signaling) within the RDM Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. He earned a BSc (Hons) and DPhil through a British Heart Foundation studentship, focusing on endothelial cell Gch1 and BH4 biosynthesis in vascular health and disease.
- Education: BSc (Hons), DPhil
- Key Affiliation: Centre for Human Genetics, University of Oxford
His research examines nitric oxide metabolism, vascular remodeling, and therapeutic interventions in cardiovascular disorders. Using endothelial cell-specific knockout models, he demonstrated BH4's role in hypertension and pregnancy complications, proposing 5-MTHF supplementation as a treatment strategy.
His publications (2014–2023) explore BH4's mechanisms in gestational hypertension, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and angiogenesis, appearing in journals like Hypertension and American Journal of Physiology. Key themes include endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and gene-environment interactions.
- Scientific Award: British Heart Foundation 4-year DPhil Studentship
