معرفی
Professor Sue Miller is a Professor of Music at Leeds School of Arts, Leeds Beckett University, where she serves as Course Leader for the MA in Popular Music and Culture and teaches across the BA Music Performance and Production program. She actively supervises PhD students and contributes to academic leadership through her role in the Leeds Arts Research Centre (LARC).
Her research spans Cuban and Latin music studies, performance practice, improvisation, music analysis, and transnational music history. She integrates ethnographic fieldwork, live performance, and recording into her scholarly work, with a focus on uncovering alternative narratives in Latin music history. Her interdisciplinary interests extend to the relationships between music and movement in dance, animation, and experimental film.
Professor Miller leads the 'Musical Synchronicities' research cluster at LARC, which fosters creative exploration across art forms. Her British Academy-funded project (2018–2020) used experimental archaeology to investigate studio recording practices in 1950s–60s Latin music, shedding light on performance aesthetics and production history.
She has received notable recognition through British Academy and Arts Council England funding. Her public engagement includes presentations at the British Academy Summer Showcase and media appearances.
As a professional musician, she is the founder and musical director of Charanga del Norte, a band established in 1998 that recently completed a national tour. Her academic work is deeply informed by her practical experience as a flute player and bandleader.
