Sue Thomas is a Professor of Flute at the Royal College of Music (RCM), specializing in Woodwind performance and orchestral studies. She holds positions as Sub Principal Flute with the London Philharmonic Orchestra since 2001 and has extensive Co Principal experience. Her career includes Principal Flute work on notable recordings such as the Brahms cycle with Marin Alsop.
Thomas began playing the flute at age ten, achieving Grade 8 within two years. She studied at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) under Trevor Wye and later at the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) with William Bennett, earning multiple prizes and scholarships during her education.
Her expertise spans orchestral performance, flute technique, and classical music interpretation. She contributes to the RCM’s Woodwind department, mentoring students and maintaining an active freelance career.
