Sucharita Gopal is a Professor at Boston University's Department of Earth & Environment and a research affiliate at five university centers, including the Pardee Center for the Study of the Longer-Range Future. She also holds a Visiting Professor appointment at the Vienna University of Business and Economics, Austria.
- Education: PhD in Geography (University of California, Santa Barbara), MPhil, MSc, BA, and BEd from Madras University.
Her multidisciplinary research integrates GIS, artificial neural networks, data mining, and spatial statistics to address challenges in urban planning, public health, environmental science, and sustainable finance. Key projects include the MIDAS platform for marine ecosystem management, deep learning AI for mangrove mapping, and climate change impact assessments in Cambodia and India.
Recent publications focus on spatial heterogeneity in climate change, urban landscape analysis, and opioid addiction modeling. She has secured grants from the National Science Foundation, MacArthur Foundation, and Rockefeller Foundation for STEM outreach, ecosystem studies, and health service mapping. Her work has been cited in journals like PNAS, Remote Sensing of Environment, and IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing.
