David Lagomasino

David Lagomasino is an Associate Professor at East Carolina University (ECU) within the Coastal Studies Department at the Coastal Studies Institute. His research focuses on mangrove ecosystems, coastal resilience, and remote sensing applications. He holds a B.S. and Ph.D. in Geological Sciences from Florida International University and an M.S. in Geology from ECU.

Key research interests include mangrove forest dynamics, hurricane impacts, blue carbon accounting, and global wetland monitoring. Lagomasino leads major grants such as the Global Center for Blue Climate Solutions (URI, 2024-2025) and the WWF Mangrove Annual Change Maps (WWF, 2022-2025). He collaborates internationally with organizations like the Global Mangrove Alliance and serves on editorial boards, including Nature Scientific Reports.

His work integrates Earth observation data to address coastal zone challenges, with recent emphasis on cyclone resilience, SDG reporting tools, and biodiversity management.
