John Kovacs

Dr. John Kovacs is a Professor in the Department of Geography and Geology at Nipissing University, specializing in environmental monitoring, remote sensing, and biogeography. He holds a BSc (Honours) from Queen's University, an MA from the University of Windsor, and a PhD from the University of Western Ontario. His research focuses on mangrove forests, wetlands, and remote sensing technologies such as radar and hyperspectral systems, with active projects in Mexico’s Pacific coast and West Africa. He has led NSERC-funded studies on mangrove health monitoring and NOHFC-supported agricultural productivity initiatives in Northern Ontario. His work integrates satellite imagery analysis, field studies, and community-based research. Kovacs has authored over 80 peer-reviewed articles, emphasizing applications of Earth observation satellites and precision agriculture tools. His contributions span environmental conservation, coastal management, and agricultural innovation, leveraging cutting-edge remote sensing techniques.

He collaborates with international teams to address climate change impacts on coastal ecosystems.
