Northwestern Universityمعرفی
Styliani (Stella) Markoulaki, PhD is a Research Professor in the Department of Cell and Developmental Biology at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. She serves as the Director of the Transgenic and Targeted Mutagenesis Laboratory (TTML), which supports genetically engineered mouse line generation, cryopreservation, and research services across Northwestern campuses and the Chicago Biomedical Consortium.
- BS: Technological Educational Institute of Athens, Greece (1995)
- MS: King’s College London, UK (2001)
- PhD: Sackler School of Graduate Biomedical Sciences, Tufts University School of Medicine (2005)
Research Interests: Dr. Markoulaki focuses on transgenesis in new model organisms, early mammalian embryonic development, and the biology of embryonic stem cells. Her work explores advanced genome editing techniques (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9) and their implications for genetic stability and disease modeling.
Publications: Her recent articles address DNA methylation abnormalities in pluripotent cells, genomic instability in embryos, and innovations in in situ genome sequencing. These reflect interdisciplinary expertise in genetics, molecular biology, and stem cell research.
Laboratory & Affiliations: As TTML Director, she leads a core facility integral to creating mouse models for human disease research. She is affiliated with the Center for Genetic Medicine and collaborates with the Chicago Biomedical Consortium.
