Stuart Snowden

Dr. Stuart Snowden serves as a Lecturer in Metabolomics within the Department of Biological Sciences at Royal Holloway, University of London, where he investigates metabolic alterations in neurodegenerative and muscular disorders using model organisms like Drosophila and mice. His work bridges biochemical analysis with disease pathology to identify therapeutic targets.

His research focuses on lipid metabolism dysregulation in conditions including amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), Parkinson's disease, and muscular dystrophies. He examines how dietary interventions and pharmacological agents modulate metabolic pathways, with emphasis on oxidized phospholipids, fatty acid metabolism, and neuromuscular degeneration. Current projects explore metabolic signatures as biomarkers for oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy and FSHD.

Recent publications reveal a dominant trend in lipid-centric approaches to neurodegeneration, particularly the role of medium-chain fatty acids in rescuing motor function and phospholipid oxidation in tauopathy models.
