Dr Steve French is a part-time lecturer in Business Management and Marketing at Staffordshire University's Staffordshire Business School. With prior academic roles at Warwick and Keele Universities, his expertise spans HRM, employment relations, and migration studies. He holds a PhD in Social Studies (German Collective Bargaining) from the University of Birmingham (2000) and a PG Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Higher Education from Keele University (2003).
His research focuses on migration and labor markets, trade unions, work-life balance, and cooperative structures. He has advised trade unions including Unite, GMB, and PCS, and supervised seven PhD students to completion. Current roles include Postgraduate Research (PGR) research lead at Staffordshire Business School.
Key publications address Brexit's labor market impacts, modern slavery in UK hospitality, and credit union challenges. His teaching includes Employment Law, Human Capital Management, and Managing People in Organizations.
Affiliated with the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development (CIPD), he has conducted research for the Low Pay Commission, Nuffield Foundation, and others. His work bridges academic research with practical union and policy engagement.
