Andrew Hanks is a Senior Lecturer at Staffordshire Business School, Staffordshire University, since 2015. He holds a PhD in Human Resource Management and Industrial Relations (Keele University, 2016), an MA in Industrial Relations and Employment Law (Keele University, 2011), and a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher and Professional Education (Staffordshire University, 2017).

His research focuses on trade unions and their members, industrial/employee relations, and employee voice and engagement. He is a digital champion in the Business School, advocating innovative teaching methods to enhance student experiences. Active on Twitter, he engages with academics and practitioners in his field.
Professional memberships include Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) and membership of the British Universities Industrial Relations Association (BUIRA). Prior to academia, he spent 16 years in the Ministry of Defence as an electrician and later as a trade union representative, shaping his expertise in employment relations.
