Stephen Selby serves as Associate Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Math and Computer Science Department at Palm Beach Atlantic University's School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, where he has been faculty since 2001. He holds significant leadership roles including Region X Director for the Florida Council of Teachers of Mathematics (FCTM) covering six counties, and Treasurer of the Florida Association of Mathematics Teacher Educators (FAMTE).
His academic credentials include:
- EDD in Curriculum Instruction and Technology in Education, Temple University
- MA in Teaching Mathematics, Rowan University
- BSE in Mathematics Education, Indiana University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Selby's research centers on secondary mathematics teacher practices and their correlation with standardized testing outcomes, particularly the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test (FCAT). With 32 years of high school mathematics teaching experience, he specializes in translating pedagogical theory into classroom practice through workshops for elementary teachers on problem-solving methodologies and presentations at national education conferences. His work bridges academic research with practical teacher training across K-12 educational systems.
He actively shapes mathematics education policy as Palm Beach Atlantic's representative on the Teacher Education Committee, FCTM/NCTM liaison to the Palm Beach County Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and church elder at Grace Fellowship Church in West Palm Beach.
