Professor Stephen Holgate is a leading clinical scientist at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Medicine, specializing in immunopharmacology and respiratory diseases. His research spans asthma pathogenesis, COPD exacerbation mechanisms, SARS-CoV-2 interactions, air pollution effects, and epithelial-mesenchymal biology.
- Medical Research Council Clinical Professor of Immunopharmacology (1987–present)

- Cloned asthma susceptibility gene ADAM33, now a therapeutic target
Scientific Leadership:
- Chaired WHO/NHLBI Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) Expert Panel
- Co-founded Synairgen (respiratory antiviral therapeutics)
- UKRI Clean Air Champion (2019–present)
- Contributed to WHO Air Quality Guidelines and UK Daily Air Quality Index
Honors and Recognition:
