Hamid Akbarshahi is an Associate Professor and Researcher in Respiratory Medicine at Lund University. He leads the Respiratory Immunopharmacology Research team and supervises research in Translational Respiratory Medicine. His work focuses on asthma exacerbation mechanisms, viral-induced inflammation, and allergen interactions in airways.
Research Interests: His studies explore cytokine regulation (IL-33, IL-1β), TLR signaling pathways, and the impact of house dust mite (HDM) and rhinovirus interactions on airway inflammation. He investigates lung transplantation outcomes, particulate matter effects on cardiovascular systems, and translational models of asthma/COPD exacerbations.
Collaborations: Active collaborations span immunology, pulmonology, and environmental health. Recent projects include studying ECMO-supported lung transplants and PM2.5-induced neuroinflammation.
Awards: No specific awards listed, but his work contributes to UN SDGs 3 (Good Health) and 11 (Sustainable Cities).
Grants/Projects: Supervises 3 ongoing projects including MECRIS (mediastinal cryobiopsy studies), statin/bisphosphonate effects on pulmonary fibrosis, and immune mechanisms in SARS-CoV-2/asthma interactions.
