Dr. Stephen Evans is a Research and Innovation Officer at Swansea University's School of Medicine, affiliated with the In Vitro Toxicology Group (IVTG). He holds a PhD in Genetic Toxicology from Swansea University (2016), focusing on nanoparticle genotoxicity assessment using in vitro airway co-culture models. His role involves supporting small companies in product/process development under the Welsh Government and EU-funded Celtic Life Innovation Network (CALIN). Evans specializes in nanotoxicology, genetic toxicology, advanced in vitro models, nanoparticle characterization, and electron microscopy.
Education: PhD in Genetic Toxicology (Swansea University, 2016). Research interests include nanoparticle-cell interactions, 3D liver models for genotoxicity testing, and the development of OECD-compliant nanomaterial testing protocols. He has contributed to over 30 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters, with recent work addressing indoor air pollution effects, graphene genotoxicity, and micronucleus assay standardization for nanomaterials.
Teaching: Leads modules on nanotoxicology and biomedical laboratory techniques for undergraduates and postgraduates. His research has advanced understanding of secondary genotoxic mechanisms in nanomaterial exposure, with a focus on lung and liver models. Evans is available for postgraduate supervision and collaborates internationally on toxicology projects.
