Stephen Emmitt is a Professor in the Department of Architecture & Civil Engineering at the University of Bath, leading research in architectural management, sustainable design, and BIM. He holds roles as Editor-in-Chief of Building Research & Information and Director of the Centre for Advanced Studies in Architecture (CASA). His career includes industrial experience in design management and a part-time PhD focusing on innovation adoption in construction. He has authored 24 books and over 150 peer-reviewed articles, contributing to global sustainability goals.
Emmitt's research spans architectural technology, collaborative working, and decarbonisation of the built environment. He has secured grants from EPSRC, TSB, and EU (e.g., the Circular Biobased Construction Industry project). His work emphasizes bio-based materials, circular economy strategies, and energy-efficient construction. Notable recognitions include the 2010 Loughborough University Enterprise Award for process innovations in SMEs.
