Stephen Cousins is a Lecturer in Exercise Science at La Trobe University's Rural Health School, based at the Bendigo Campus. He also serves as the International Partnerships Coordinator within the school. With over a decade of academic experience, he teaches across various Exercise Science subjects and coordinates undergraduate placements to meet Exercise and Sport Science Australia (ESSA) accreditation standards. Dr. Cousins' research focuses on the impact of overweight and obesity on health, novel exercise interventions for chronic diseases, physical testing in Australian football, and physical activity interventions for older adults. His work integrates biomechanics, exercise physiology, and sport science to address practical health and performance challenges. His PhD research explored the influence of childhood excessive body mass on foot loading characteristics and lower limb biomechanics.
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applied research in sports science, with emphasis on Australian Rules Football analytics, walking football programs for older adults, and innovative rehabilitation approaches for acquired brain injuries using tools like Nintendo Ring Fit Adventure. The research spans biomechanical analysis, performance testing, and community-based exercise interventions.
