Thomas Leeder is a Lecturer in Physical Education & Sport Pedagogy at the University of East Anglia (UEA), leading the Sport, Health, & Education research group. Previously, he held roles at the University of Essex (2020-2022) and worked with organizations like the Football Association (FA), Leicester City FC, and Norwich City FC. His academic qualifications include a BA (UEA, 2015), MSc (Loughborough, 2016), PhD (UEA, 2020), and PG Cert in Higher Education (Essex, 2022). He is a Fellow of AdvanceHE and Routledge-published author.
Research focuses on sport coaching development, mentorship programs, and lifestyle sport pedagogy. Notable projects include exploring grassroots football coaching in England, British Orienteering coaches' journeys, and virtual running coaching pedagogies. Collaborations include The FA, British Dodgeball, and British Orienteering. His 2022 edited book Coach Education in Football examines global coach development challenges.
PhD supervision interests include qualitative studies on coach education, mentoring, and adventure sport pedagogies. He serves as an external examiner at Plymouth Marjon University and reviews for journals like International Journal of Sport Coaching. Recent work addresses LGBTQ+ narratives in mountaineering and sociological frameworks in coach education.
