Dr. Stephanie Merchant is a Lecturer in Leisure, Tourism and the Environment and Deputy Director of the SPHERE Research Centre (Centre for Sport, Physical Activity and Health Equality) at the University of Bath. She joined in 2013 after completing her PhD in Human Geography at the University of Plymouth. Her research integrates phenomenological and posthuman theoretical perspectives across three key areas: qualitative methodological innovation using technology (video/GPS), sport/leisure spatial dynamics (especially nature/blue space wellbeing), and technological engagements with health environments.
Teaching focuses on sociological studies of health/fitness, sport/leisure tourism, and sport environment sustainability. She contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals through research on urban design for healthy communities and sustainable tourism environments.
