Dr. Anthony Bush is a Senior Lecturer and Deputy Head of the Department for Health at the University of Bath, with roles including former Director of Learning and Teaching (2015–2021) and Director of Studies for the BA in Sport and Social Sciences (2012–2015). His research focuses on the physically active body in elite sports contexts, employing interdisciplinary methods like ethnography and autoethnography, and draws on theories from cultural studies, sociology, and urban studies. He has over 25 years of coaching experience and is a member of the Centre for Qualitative Research and the Centre for Sport, Physical Activity and Health Equality (SPHERE).
Dr. Bush has contributed to projects such as the Access Sport - Building Stronger Communities (UK charity-funded) and the Athlete Inspire Programme (Big Lottery Fund). He won the 2016 Leadership in Learning and Teaching Award. His work addresses issues such as non-formal education, sport-based interventions for youth employability, and the social impact of rugby.
