Dr. Stephanie Lewis is a Clinical Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at King’s College London’s Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN), affiliated with the Department of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry. She holds an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship and practices as a psychiatrist in child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). Her clinical and academic training includes psychiatry work at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and the IoPPN.
Dr. Lewis’s research focuses on understanding mental health challenges in trauma-exposed youth to improve psychiatric care. Key areas include PTSD prevalence, trauma epidemiology, and healthcare service utilization patterns. She investigates the impact of complex traumas (e.g., abuse, bullying) on psychopathology and cognitive functioning, emphasizing evidence-based interventions and diagnostic accuracy.
Her work has contributed to high-impact publications in The Lancet Psychiatry and Neuropsychopharmacology, addressing topics like trauma epidemiology and the psychoneuroimmunology of childhood adversity. She has been recognized with the 2022 ACAMH Awards for her contributions to child mental health research.
Dr. Lewis advocates for improved mental health assessments in vulnerable populations, such as children in out-of-home care, and explores innovative interventions for trauma-affected youth. Her research integrates genetic, environmental, and clinical data to advance personalized psychiatry approaches.
