Dr Stephanie Chambers is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences. She is affiliated with the School of Health and Wellbeing’s Social Scientists in Health group and the Complexity in Health Programme at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit. Her research focuses on improving children’s health through policy evaluation, dietary interventions, and addressing commercial determinants of health.
Education includes a BA in English and Politics, an MSc in Public Policy, and a PhD from the University of Reading. She has held previous roles at the University of Dundee (Chief Scientist Office Postdoctoral Fellowship) and the University of Glasgow (MRC/University of Glasgow Research Fellowship).
Research interests include children's health equity, school-based interventions, and evaluating policies to improve diets and reduce health inequalities. She has led projects on free school meals, obesity prevention, and the impact of commercial sponsorships in sports.
Key awards include the 2022 Research Culture Celebration (University of Glasgow) and the 2015 Erasmus Mundus Nova Domus Visiting Scholarship. She co-leads grants such as the CANTEEN Study on food insecurity in secondary schools and the Healthy Dads, Healthy Kids feasibility project in prisons.
Teaching roles include convening the MRes/MSc Global Health program and courses on health program evaluation. She is actively involved in professional activities, including chairing the UK Society for Behavioural Medicine's Scientific Programme Committee (2024).
