Sharon Simpson is a Professor of Behavioural Sciences and Health at the MRC/CSO Social and Public Health Sciences Unit, University of Glasgow. She leads the Complexity programme and heads the Population Health Research Facility within the Glasgow Clinical Trials Unit. Her research focuses on developing and evaluating complex interventions for lifestyle behaviors, healthy ageing, obesity, mental health, and mHealth technologies. She has held leadership roles in national health committees and editorial boards. Key contributions include over £34 million in grant funding from the NIHR and MRC.
Research interests span diet, physical activity, smoking cessation, social networks, and systems thinking. She has extensive experience in randomized controlled trials, process evaluation, and mixed-methods approaches. Her work emphasizes translational research to bridge gaps between evidence and practice.
Recent articles highlight her focus on social networks and physical activity in aging populations, metabolic effects of ketogenic diets in bipolar disorder, and multimorbidity clusters. She has led trials on weight management, sexual health interventions, and digital mental health technologies for adolescents.
Sharon chairs the UK Society of Behavioural Medicine and has contributed to national health policy committees. Her research integrates behavioral science with public health to address systemic challenges in chronic disease management and health equity.
