Dr. Sharon Cox is a Principal Research Fellow at the University College London (UCL) in the Tobacco and Alcohol Research Group, with over 20 years of experience in addiction research and harm reduction. Her work focuses on tobacco dependence treatment in populations facing severe disadvantage, particularly exploring the intersection of homelessness, mental health, and substance use. She has held prior roles at London South Bank University and the University of East London, advancing her expertise in behavioral science and clinical psychology.
Research Interests: Dr. Cox examines how social determinants affect access to smoking cessation treatments and broader tobacco harm reduction strategies. She leads the SCeTCH trial, evaluating e-cigarettes for smoking cessation among homeless populations, and develops ontologies for nicotine and tobacco researchers.
Grants: Her research is funded by Cancer Research UK, the Medical Research Council (MRC), and the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR).
Teaching: She supervises dissertations for MSc Health Psychology and BSc students and leads the module IEHC0027: Social Determinants of Health.
