Amanda Palmer

Amanda Palmer, PhD is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), with a dual affiliation in the Hollings Cancer Control Program and MUSC Health Tobacco Treatment Program. She holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of South Florida and completed postdoctoral training at MUSC.

Her research focuses on health psychology and behavioral medicine, emphasizing tobacco use cessation and harm reduction strategies for e-cigarettes and vaping. She leads studies on nicotine replacement therapy efficacy, vaping cessation strategies, and the health impacts of transitioning from combustible tobacco to reduced-risk products like nicotine pouches.

Dr. Palmer's work spans clinical trials evaluating novel treatments for nicotine addiction, such as varenicline trials and telehealth-based interventions. She has contributed to developing tobacco treatment programs in hospital and outpatient settings, including an opt-out telehealth pharmacist-assisted program for oncology patients. Her studies also address disparities in smoking cessation outcomes among populations with comorbid medical conditions and mental health diagnoses.
