Stanislav Markus is an Associate Professor of International Business at the Darla Moore School of Business, University of South Carolina, and a Business Partnership Foundation Fellow. He holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University (2009) and a B.A. from the University of Pennsylvania (2002). Previously, he taught at the University of Chicago and held visiting positions at Stanford GSB, Copenhagen Business School, Peking University, and UC San Diego.

His research focuses on non-market strategy, political risk in emerging markets, corporate political activity, CSR, property rights, populism, and regulatory enforcement. His book Property, Predation, and Protection: Piranha Capitalism in Russia and Ukraine (Cambridge, 2015) won the prestigious Stein Rokkan Prize. His work appears in journals like Academy of Management Review, Comparative Political Studies, and Daedalus.
He has received fellowships from institutions such as the Wilson Center and Harvard Academy. His commentary is featured in media like CNN, Forbes, and NPR. He is fluent in Russian, German, and French, with proficiency in Ukrainian and conversational Mandarin.
