Beáta Sperlágh is a Professor of Pharmacology at Semmelweis University and Head of the Department of Pharmacology at the Institute of Experimental Medicine (IEM HAS), Hungarian Academy of Sciences. She holds multiple leadership roles, including Deputy Director of IEM HAS, Scientific Advisor, and Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology. Her career spans over three decades with extensive research experience in neuropharmacology and neuroscience.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, cannabinergic and purinergic signaling, drug target validation, and pharmacology of pain and psychiatric disorders. She explores glia-neuron interactions and molecular mechanisms underlying neurological diseases.
Awards: Notable recognitions include the 2016 Academy Award (Hungarian Academy of Sciences), 2012 ERC Advanced Grant (as Co-PI), and 2005 L’Oreal-UNESCO Award for Women in Science. She was also a Széchenyi Professorship fellow (2000).
Grants & Labs: Led the Neurochemical Research Group and the Laboratory of Molecular Pharmacology. Secured major grants like the ERC Advanced Investigator Grant. Collaborated internationally as a visiting researcher at the Center of Neurochemistry in New York (1991, 1992, 1996).
