Gyorgy Bagdy is a distinguished Hungarian academic currently serving as a Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacodynamics at Semmelweis University since 2010. He has held prominent roles including Scientific Director at the National Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology (2002) and Research Professor at Semmelweis University (2007).

His research focuses on neuropsychopharmacology, particularly the role of serotonin in anxiety, depression, and sleep disorders, with a strong emphasis on genetics, neuroendocrinology, and ecstasy studies.
He has received multiple honors, including the Prize of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (2012) and the Excellent PhD mentor Award (2009). His career spans leadership in laboratories such as the National Institute of Psychiatry and Neurology and international experience via the Fogarty Visiting Fellow program in the U.S.A.
