معرفی
Denes Adam is a Senior Research Fellow and Group Leader at the Institute of Experimental Medicine (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) in Budapest, where he serves as Head of the Laboratory of Neuroimmunology and Head of the Cell Biology Center. He maintains a Visiting Scientist position at the University of Manchester. His career spans immunology and neuroscience with dual expertise in both fields.
- MSc in Immunology (Eötvös Loránd University, 2001)
- PhD in Neurosciences (Semmelweis University, 2004)
His research focuses on neuroimmune interactions, particularly microglia biology in health and disease. Key areas include microglia-neuron communication, neuroinflammation in stroke and neurodegeneration, and autonomic regulation of immune organs. His work bridges fundamental neuroscience with clinical applications in cerebral blood flow disorders and neurotropic infections.
His publication record demonstrates leadership in neuroimmunology, with recent articles revealing microglial mechanisms in neuronal protection and viral defense. The research shows consistent focus on purinergic signaling pathways and neuroimmune crosstalk across diverse pathological conditions.
- ERC Consolidator Grant (2017)
- Momentum Program (2016)
- Bolyai Janos Research Scholarship (2014)
- Exceptional Research Performance Award, University of Manchester (2012)
As Principal Investigator, he has secured over 3.4 million EUR in competitive funding including ERC and Marie Curie grants. He serves on editorial boards for leading journals and co-organized the first Stroke-Immunology meeting (470+ participants). His laboratory maintains active collaborations between Hungarian and UK research institutions.
His team conducts cutting-edge research on microglial function using advanced imaging and molecular techniques, with strong translational focus on stroke, neurodegeneration, and viral infections of the nervous system.
