Sophie Murphy is a Lecturer at University College Birmingham's Department of Hospitality and Tourism. She teaches across events, hospitality, and tourism management programs while serving as Year Manager for Level 5 Hospitality and Tourism Management. Her academic journey began at UCB where she earned a First Class BA (Hons) Events Management degree.
Holds Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching (Distinction) and is completing an MSc in Global Meetings and Events Management. Fellow of Higher Education Academy and member of Institute of Hospitality.
Research examines cultural festivals, event tourism impacts, pedagogical approaches for hospitality education, and methodological frameworks for social science research in tourism contexts.
Teaching responsibilities include module leadership for: International Research Project, Hospitality Investigations, Events Business Environment, Hospitality and Tourism Customer Experience, Events Industry in Context, and Business Innovation Project.
