Sophie J. Engle

Sophie Engle is Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of San Francisco, focusing on computer science education, data visualization, and community engagement. She directs the Visualization and Graphics Lab and co-leads the Community-Engaged Scholars program supporting low-income CS students.

Research interests include data visualization pedagogy, anti-racist teaching frameworks, and equitable access in technology education. Her work emphasizes collaborative learning, peer feedback systems, and inclusive curriculum development.

Recent recognition includes the Frank Beach Award (2025) for sustained leadership and Collective Achievement Awards (2024, 2018) for educational equity initiatives. Publications address visualization rubrics and knowledge translation in athletic training.
