Sophie Engle

Dr. Sophie Engle is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of San Francisco and co-founder of the Visualization and Graphics Lab (VGL). She earned her Ph.D. in Computer Science from UC Davis in 2010.

Her research focuses on data visualization techniques and computer science education. She develops pedagogical approaches to support diverse learners through one-on-one interactions in software development and data visualization courses.

Awards include:

• Distinguished Teaching Award (2019)
• Modern Women in Tech recognition (2018)
• Innovation in Teaching Award (2016)

She serves on the steering committee for the Symposium on Visualization for Cyber Security (VizSec) and chaired the conference in 2017.
