Simon Kaylor is a Senior Lecturer specializing in Jazz at Leeds Conservatoire. He teaches Foundation Year and BA (Hons) Music (Jazz) courses, with a focus on jazz saxophone performance. His career spans over two decades of professional playing and education.
Education: BA (Hons) Jazz from Leeds Conservatoire (1999), MMus (Leeds Conservatoire), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Performing Arts Education from Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM). A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Research interests include contemporary jazz performance, experimental projects, and music education. Notable collaborations include work with Jerry Bergonzi in Boston (2005), performances with groups like Abstract Orchestra, IDST (Jazz Yorkshire Band of the Year 2010), and international touring with artists such as Alfie Boe and The Temptations Review.
Awards highlight his excellence in performance and education, including the 'Spud Murphy' Saxophone Prize and multiple band accolades. He has contributed to major touring productions like The Rat Pack Las Vegas Spectacular and The Magic of Motown.
