Edward Tomassi is a Professor at Berklee College of Music since 1976 and teaches at Brown University. His roles include instruction in jazz improvisation, performance, harmony, and music history. He is an accomplished performer on saxophones, clarinet, and flute, having performed with groups such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic and the Temptations.
Education: Graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a major in composition. Notable mentors include Dave Liebman, Charlie Mariano, and Jerry Bergonzi.
Research interests focus on jazz improvisation pedagogy, music theory, and performance practices. He has presented clinics for the Dave Liebman IASJ and authored the instructional DVD Jazz Improvisation: Starting Out with Motivic Development (2003).
