Dr. Simon Brooks is an Associate Professor in the School of Management at Swansea University, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. His interdisciplinary work spans History, Political Theory, and Language Planning. He advises the Welsh Government as a member of the Welsh Language Partnership Council, currently chairing a group addressing Welsh language use post-Covid-19. He is also a member of the University's Morgan Academy and General Editor for the University of Wales Press' 'Dawn Dweud' intellectual biography series.
Research focuses on Welsh history post-Enlightenment, multiculturalism, and language policy. Notable works include Why Wales Never Was (2017) analyzing Welsh nationalism's failure, and an autoethnographic study of a Welsh-speaking community (Adra, 2018). His upcoming book Hanes Cymry will be the first comprehensive history of Welsh ethnic minorities.
Public engagement includes BBC appearances, speaking at the Hay Festival and National Eisteddfod, and writing for publications like The Welsh Agenda. Key projects include a comparative study of second-home policies in Wales and Cornwall. Grants include funding from the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol for policy development research.
