Simon Arnett Jones is Professor of Inflammation Biology at Cardiff University's School of Medicine, UK, holding leadership roles including Co-Director and Lead for Multimorbidity at The Systems Immunity Research Institute (since 2021), former Dean of Research for the School of Medicine (2017-2021), and College Theme Lead for Infection, Immunology & Inflammation (2015-2020). His 25+ year career at Cardiff progressed from Lecturer (1999) to Professor (2008-present).
His research spans critical immunological domains:
- Inflammation mechanisms and rheumatoid arthritis pathogenesis
- Jak-STAT signalling pathways and STAT transcription factor regulation
- Chemokine biology in leukocyte trafficking
- Anti-microbial host defence systems
- Cytokine receptor biology with focus on interleukin-6 family therapeutics
- Biological drug development targeting cytokine systems
His award-winning work includes the 2004 Bolzmann Award for cytokine biology contributions.
