Simin Fadaee is a Senior Lecturer in Sociology at the University of Manchester, specializing in social movements, revolutions, and social justice. She holds leadership roles as President of the International Sociological Association Research Committee on Social Classes and Social Movements (2023–2027) and serves as an External Examiner for the Sociology Department at the University of Edinburgh (2024–2028). Her work critiques the Northern-centric biases in sociological theory and explores decolonial perspectives.
Education: B.A. from the University of Tehran, M.A. from Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), and Ph.D. from the University of Freiburg (Germany). Previously worked at Humboldt University of Berlin before joining the UK.
Research focuses on social movements in Iran, India, and Germany, emphasizing revolutionary politics, Marxism, and global south dynamics. Key publications include Global Marxism: Decolonisation and Revolutionary Politics (2024) and Understanding Southern Social Movements (2016). Affiliated with the Sustainable Consumption Institute and movements@manchester research group.
Awards: Research Fellow at the Sheffield Institute for International Development (2016).
Advising and Grants: Actively supervises research students and participates in international conferences and editorial committees. Engaged in activities such as invited talks on global Marxism and decolonial theory globally.
