Aditya Mohanty is an Assistant Professor of Development Studies at the Central University of South Bihar (Gaya, India) and a PhD candidate at the University of Aberdeen. His academic journey includes a Master's in Sociology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (2003-05), a Commonwealth Scholarship-funded Urban Geography study at UCL (2011-12), and ongoing doctoral research on 'Doing Subaltern Politics from Above: The Case of Valmikis in Delhi'. His work bridges urban studies, postcolonial theory, and governance, focusing on subaltern groups' engagement with neoliberal urbanization.

Research interests span Post-Marxism, Civil Society, Subaltern Studies, and South Asian Development. Mohanty’s interdisciplinary approach examines how urbanization reshapes identity politics and contentious movements. He has presented at global conferences like the Royal Geographical Society and ISA World Congress, and his work has appeared in Economic and Political Weekly and urban policy journals.

His teaching includes courses on Development Communication, Urbanization, and Qualitative Research Methods. Mohanty has engaged in policy-relevant research, such as analyzing JEEViKA’s impact on women’s empowerment in Bihar. His current PhD explores how subaltern groups navigate urban governance in Delhi.
