Jyoti Sinha is a Lecturer in the Sociology department and affiliated with the Honors College at the University of Massachusetts Boston. Her academic work centers on labor and gender issues, utilizing ethnographic methods to explore work culture and social dynamics through an emic perspective.

Her research spans social stratification, globalization, and critical theory, with a focus on South Asian diaspora communities in the northeastern U.S. and labor rights in the Global South, particularly among women coal miners in India and garment industry workers.
Sinha founded and leads the South Asian Workers’ Center (SAWC), fostering community-building initiatives. She also contributes to public sociology through participatory action research and has designed Honors College courses like Culture, Narratives & Migration and Women & Community Building, reflecting her expertise in gender and migration studies.
