Silvia Kaugia is a Lecturer in Comparative Jurisprudence at the University of Tartu's School of Law within the Faculty of Social Sciences. She has held academic positions since 2003, including roles as Vice Dean and Programme Director in the Faculty of Law. Her research focuses on Sociology of Law, Comparative Jurisprudence, and legal system analysis with emphasis on domestic violence prevention, forensic science, and crime policy. She has contributed to projects such as the development of gender stereotype-free law enforcement systems and the prevention of intimate partner violence in Estonia. Her publications span over 100 articles, addressing topics like legal ethics, forensic psychology, and socio-legal dynamics. Kaugia earned a Research Master's Degree in Sociology (1994) and a Doctorate in Law (2011) from the University of Tartu. She has actively participated in national and international research projects funded by organizations including the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences and the Ministry of Social Affairs. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches to legal education and policy-making, reflecting a commitment to advancing legal theory and its practical applications.
