Mario Rosentau is a Lecturer in Comparative Jurisprudence at the University of Tartu's School of Law (Faculty of Social Sciences) since 2016. He holds a Doctor of Law degree (2004) and a Master's in Philosophy (1998), both from the University of Tartu. His research focuses on legal theory, philosophy of law, intellectual property in IT, EU constitutional law, and argumentation frameworks. He has been actively involved in academic administration, including leading bachelor's thesis defense panels and participating in EU-funded legal research networks like LAPSI (2010–2012).
His creative work includes over 30 presentations at conferences such as the International Society for the Study of Argumentation (Amsterdam, 2010) and training programs on legal argumentation, IT law, and civil law for Estonian institutions. Notable awards include the 2002 ERA Award for his essay on EU constitutional theory. Rosentau has contributed to projects addressing legal harmonization in information law and has published extensively on topics like digital contracts, GDPR compliance, and the philosophical foundations of law.
He has also engaged in practical legal work as an attorney and has delivered training to judges, law enforcement agencies, and IT managers across Estonia. His interdisciplinary approach bridges legal theory with digital governance, emphasizing the intersection of human needs and normative legal structures.
