Martin Käerdi is an Associate Professor of Civil Law at the University of Tartu, Faculty of Social Sciences, School of Law, with a 0.20 time commitment as of September 2025. He previously held full-time roles as an Associate Professor and Lecturer in Civil Law at the University of Tartu's Faculty of Law and Institute of Private Law since 2004. From 2004 to 2008, he served as a Lecturer in Civil Law at the University of Tartu. Prior to academia, he worked at the Ministry of Justice of Estonia as Head of the Private Law Division from 1996 to 2003.
Education: Martin Käerdi earned a Doctor of Law degree from Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg in 2005, focusing on comparative civil law between German and Estonian sales law. He also holds a Master's degree from the University of Tartu's Faculty of Law and completed studies at Freie Universität Berlin and the University of Tartu.
