Kalev Saare is an Associate Professor (0.5 FTE) of Civil Law at the University of Tartu's School of Law (Faculty of Social Sciences). He holds a PhD in Civil Law (2004, supervised by Paul Varul) and has extensive administrative experience, including acting head roles at the Institute of Private Law and various academic chairs. His career spans over two decades at the University of Tartu, with earlier roles as Lecturer (2003–2006) and full-time Associate Professor (2006–2020).
Education: LL.B. (1996), LL.M. (1999), and Doctor of Law (2004) from the University of Tartu, with additional studies at Konstanz University (2001–2002). Member of the Estonian Bar Association and attorney at law.
Research focuses on Civil Law, including company law, obligations, property law, and legal persons. He contributed to the Commentary on the Estonian Civil Code and co-authored textbooks on civil and corporate law. Recent work addresses fiduciary duties in corporations, shareholder rights, and legal reform analyses.
Notable projects include the Ühinguõiguse revisjon (Company Law Revision) and Estonian Legal Space in Global Context. Administrative roles include working groups on EU law harmonization and professional suitability assessments. Active in legal commentary and doctrinal scholarship.
