Silvia Kurr is a Researcher at Linnaeus University and a Research Assistant at the University of Tartu's Institute of Cultural Research. Her academic career includes roles such as Junior Research Fellow in Literary Theory (2022–2023) and PhD student (2019–2023). She holds a Doctor's Degree (2023) and Master's Degree (2019) from the University of Tartu and Tallinn University, respectively, with expertise in comparative literature and cultural studies.
Education: Doctorate in Literature and Cultural Research (University of Tartu, 2023); Master's in Literature, Visual Culture, and Film Studies (Tallinn University/Estonian Academy of Arts, 2019); Bachelor's in English Language and Culture (Tallinn University, 2017).
Research Interests: Silvia focuses on intermediality, new materialism, ekphrasis, and environmental humanities. She explores how media transformations and material agency intersect with ecological and cultural narratives. Recent work includes studies on plastic pollution in visual art, AI-generated art, and post-pandemic futurism.
Awards: 2024 Crafoord Foundation Grant, 2023 National Student Research Contest Diploma (for doctoral thesis), multiple Kristjan Jaak Travel Grants, and top thesis awards from Tallinn University.
