Arko Olesk is a Senior Research Fellow (0.50) at Tallinn University’s Baltic Film, Media and Arts School, concurrently serving as a Science and Education Advisor to the President of Estonia (0.50). He holds a PhD in Science Communication (2024) and a Master’s in Science Communication from Imperial College London (2009). His roles include Lecturer of Science Communication (2017–2024) and Head of the Science and Innovation Communication Centre (2012–2013).
Education: PhD studies at Tallinn University (2013–), MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London (2008–2009), and a journalism degree from Tartu University (1999–2007).
Research focuses on science communication, environmental communication, and innovation communication, with projects like the QUEST initiative for quality indicators in science communication. Notable awards include the Estonian Science Popularization Award (2011) and the Kristjan Jaak Scholarship (2008).
Key projects include the EU-funded 'Coordinated Opportunities for Advanced Leadership in Science Communication in Europe' (2023–2027) and climate communication initiatives. He has supervised 9 Master’s theses, including studies on media literacy, environmental awareness, and science-policy interfaces.
Labs/teams: Active in Tallinn University’s research groups on media innovation, digital culture, and environmental communication. Engaged in interdisciplinary efforts like the ‘KLIIMAMINISTEERIUM’ project addressing water management and climate myths.
