Silas Howard

Silas Howard is a Visiting Professor at Vermont College of Fine Arts, where he contributes to the film program as a director and writer specializing in authentic narratives with groundbreaking characters. His professional work spans acclaimed television series and feature films, emphasizing queer representation and innovative storytelling.

His research and creative interests include film directing, screenwriting, and the development of narratives that explore complex identities, particularly within LGBTQ+ contexts. This aligns with his background as a founding member of the queer punk band Tribe 8 and co-founder of San Francisco's Red Dora’s Bearded Lady performance space.

Howard received a 2015 Guggenheim Fellowship, recognizing his contributions to the arts. His recent projects include directing the feature film Darby and the Dead (2022) and episodes of award-winning series like FX's POSE and Apple TV+'s Dickinson.
